Conferences

2005 World Mental Health Congress

  • 4–8 September 2005
  • Cairo, Egypt

This conference is organized by the Giza Mental Health Association and the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Council of the World Federation of Mental Health, in cooperation with the World Islamic Association for Mental Health and the Arab Federation of NGOs for Prevention of Substance Abuse. The theme for the Congress is ‘Equity and mental health’, a theme that will be reflected through plenary sessions, workshops, and special skills training tracks. Among the sub-themes to be addressed through the programme are: equity in the allocation of health care resources between physical and mental health needs; equity in mental health care across the life span; equity of user/consumer and family/caregiver involvement in mental health planning; and equity in the availability of the most effective psychiatric medications and other therapeutic interventions for those who need them.

10th International Women and Health Meeting

  • 21–25 September 2005
  • New Delhi, India

The 10th IWHM seeks to highlight politics, policies and issues that have adverse effects on women's health and to bring out the linkages and interconnections of these seemingly disparate phenomena. The theme of the meeting is ‘Health rights, women's lives: challenges and strategies for movement building’. Its aim is to centre stage the issue of women's health as a fundamental right by providing a forum for participants to:

  • Understand the multi-dimensional ways in which this right is facilitated or violated;
  • Share the current modes of facilitation of these rights and/or struggles to oppose violations;
  • Examine linkages and arrive at a broad consensus on positions revolving around the focal themes of the meeting;
  • Strategize and help in strengthening the women's health movement.

2nd International Conference on Health Financing in Developing Countries

  • 1–2 December 2005
  • Clermont-Ferrand, France

This conference will be held at the CERDI, International Centre for Studies and Research on International Development, University of Auvergne, France, and is organized in partnership with the World Bank Institute, the French Health Economists Association and ESPAD Network, the French Development Agency, French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the World Health Organization. It aims to gather French and foreign participants from various backgrounds to discuss and exchange views on theoretical, conceptual, methodological and applied studies on the multiple aspects of health financing in developing countries.

The conference will mainly focus on four broad areas:

  • Health financing, macroeconomic issues and development strategies;
  • Financing strategies, roles of stakeholders, combining instruments;
  • Financing, efficiency and regulation of health systems;
  • Evaluation: methods and case studies.

9th International Union against Sexually Transmitted Infections (IUSTI) World Congress
