Working with private sector providers for better health care: an introductory guide

By Elizabeth Smith, Ruairí Brugha and Anthony Zwi

This Guide provides a practical and critical approach to developing strategies for working with private sector providers (PSPs) for better health care, focusing on the way the poor use PSPs. It describes and evaluates different approaches, illustrated by case studies. It also provides advice on how to take things forward, outlining steps that decision-makers should take to assist in strategy selection. The Guide represents an initial step in developing appropriate working relationships with PSPs in developing countries.

The Guide is jointly published by Options Consultancy Services Ltd and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London, UK. Copies can be obtained free of charge from Options Consultancy Services, 129 Whitfield Street, London W1P 5RT, UK. Email: d.ranger{at}options.co.uk. Tel: +44 (0) 20 7383 2494.
